What Carlo is
What is Carlo?
Carlo is your personal finance agent. It connects your financial life into one model and builds a live way to explore each decision, so you can see what changes before you act.
How is this different from a budgeting app?
A budgeting app sorts what already happened and draws you a chart of it. Carlo holds your accounts, debts, equity, and goals as one model and runs the decision forward, so “can I afford this” comes back as a projection you can reach into and change, not a summary of last month.
Why not just ask ChatGPT?
A general chatbot knows only what you paste into it, and it starts from nothing every conversation. Carlo keeps a standing model of your real accounts and balances, so an answer comes from your actual positions rather than a plausible guess, and you can open the arithmetic that produced it.
Who is Carlo for?
People whose money has more than one moving part: equity compensation, a mortgage decision, student loans, a partner’s accounts, a business. If the whole question is where last month went, a budgeting app is cheaper and it is enough.
Is Carlo a financial advisor?
No. Carlo is planning software, not a registered investment adviser, and it sells no funds, no insurance, and no loans. Nobody pays us but you, so there is nothing for the advice to bend toward, and every answer shows the math behind it.
What it can and cannot do
Can Carlo move money or place trades?
Not today. Connections are read only: Carlo sees your accounts and cannot touch them. Trading through your own brokerage accounts is on the roadmap, and like every action we add, each one waits for your approval rather than running on its own.
Does Carlo do my taxes?
Carlo models your tax picture now: withholding, estimated payments, Roth conversions, RSU and bonus timing, and the marginal rate a decision actually lands in. Filing a return from the model that already knows your year is the next thing we are building.
What happens when Carlo is wrong?
You can see it happen. Every projection opens into the numbers underneath, so you change an assumption and watch the answer move instead of taking a sentence on faith. When Carlo does not have the data to answer, it says so rather than estimating.
Do I need an account to use the calculators?
No. All 37 calculators are free and open, with no sign in and nothing saved to a profile. Each one shows the arithmetic line by line, and every scenario has its own link you can send to somebody.
Can I use Carlo on my phone?
Yes. Carlo runs in your phone’s browser, and members can add a mobile number in Settings and then text Carlo directly, picking the same conversation back up from wherever they left it.
Your money and your data
How does Carlo connect to my accounts?
Through read only connections with providers like Plaid and SnapTrade, the same handoff Venmo and Robinhood use. You sign in at your own institution, so Carlo never sees your bank password, and you can disconnect an account at any time.
How is my data handled?
Carlo reads your finances to work for you, never to sell you. No ad networks, no data brokers, no anonymized insights sold to anybody. You can export everything and delete everything whenever you want, and the full story of what we store lives on our trust page.
What does early access cost?
Your first 30 days are free with every membership feature. Then it is $20 a month for your first 12 paid months and $50 a month afterward. Cancel during the trial to avoid a charge. Your first charge also has a 30-day money-back guarantee.
How do I get started?
Create your account and start Carlo’s 30-day trial to unlock the full membership. Once you’re in, connect an account from Accounts whenever you’re ready. Public enrollment appears here only when the rollout is open.
